The COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. The Alliance Theatre Scene Shop was shut down, shop crew eventually put on furlough and all essential staff began working from home beginning in March, 2020. The drive to re-open as soon as possible was ever present, and the only way to do that safely was to develop and implement a response plan. Developing this plan I collected guidelines and best practices from every resource I could think of and talked to friends and colleagues in shops all over the country about how they were looking at re-opening. I worked with the Alliance Theatre's parent company, the Woodruff Arts Center, to avoid legal pitfalls and fulfill base requirements, and departments all over campus to set up housekeeping, facilities maintenance, human resources, and IT service. I worked with my own management to set a date for returning to work that gave us the time we needed to re-organize and get everyone back to work safely. The AT Scene Shop was the first Alliance department to return to in person work in September, 2020. |
